Roden Crater
Roden Crater is an astronomical observatory and art installation located in northern Arizona, designed by artist James Turrell. The crater, formed by volcanic activity, has been transformed into a space that allows visitors to experience the interplay of light and sky.
The project began in the 1970s and is part of Turrell's larger exploration of perception and the nature of light. The installation features various chambers and openings that frame celestial events, such as sunrises and sunsets, creating a unique environment for observing the cosmos.
