Rochester Subway
The Rochester Subway was a rapid transit system in Rochester, New York, operating from 1927 until 1956. It consisted of a 13.1-mile underground and surface route that connected various neighborhoods and the downtown area. The subway was initially built to alleviate traffic congestion and provide efficient transportation for residents.
Despite its early promise, the Rochester Subway struggled with ridership and financial issues. By the mid-1950s, the system was closed, and the tracks were eventually removed. Today, parts of the former subway route have been repurposed for walking and biking trails, preserving a piece of Rochester's transportation history.
