Robert Wadlow
Robert Wadlow, known as the "Alton Giant," was the tallest person in recorded history. Born on February 22, 1918, in Alton, Illinois, he reached an astonishing height of 8 feet 11 inches (2.72 meters) by the time he was 22 years old. His extraordinary growth was due to an overactive pituitary gland, which caused his body to produce excessive amounts of growth hormone.
Despite his towering stature, Robert was known for his gentle nature and friendly personality. He enjoyed participating in community events and was a popular figure in his hometown. Tragically, he passed away on July 15, 1940, but his legacy continues to inspire many around the world.
