Robert Service
Robert Service was a British-Canadian poet and writer, born on January 16, 1874, in Preston, England. He is best known for his poems about the Yukon during the Klondike Gold Rush, capturing the spirit of adventure and the rugged landscape of the Canadian North. His most famous works include "The Shooting of Dan McGrew" and "The Cremation of Sam McGee."
Service moved to Canada in 1894 and worked various jobs, including as a bank clerk and a prospector. His experiences in the Yukon inspired much of his writing, which often reflects themes of hardship, resilience, and the pursuit of dreams. He passed away on September 11, 1958, leaving a lasting legacy in Canadian literature.
