Ring Nebula
The Ring Nebula, also known as Messier 57, is a planetary nebula located in the constellation Lyra. It is approximately 2,300 light-years away from Earth and is one of the most studied nebulae due to its bright and distinct ring shape. The nebula is formed from the outer layers of a dying star that has shed its material, creating a glowing shell of gas.
The central star of the Ring Nebula is a white dwarf, which is the remnant core of the original star. As the star evolves, it emits ultraviolet light that ionizes the surrounding gas, causing it to emit light in various colors. This process creates the beautiful and colorful appearance of the nebula, making it a popular target for both amateur and professional astronomers.
