Richard Helms
Richard Helms was an American intelligence officer who served as the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) from 1966 to 1973. He played a significant role during the Cold War, overseeing various covert operations and intelligence activities. Helms was known for his strong belief in the importance of secrecy and the need for the CIA to operate independently.
After leaving the CIA, Helms continued his career in public service, including a position as the U.S. Ambassador to Iran. His tenure at the CIA was marked by controversies, particularly regarding the agency's involvement in the Vietnam War and other covert actions. Helms passed away in 2002.
