Rhyming Slang
Rhyming slang is a form of English slang originating from the East End of London. It involves replacing a common word with a phrase that rhymes with it. For example, instead of saying "stairs," one might say "apples and pears." Often, the rhyming part of the phrase is dropped, so "apples" would be used instead.
This playful language adds a layer of secrecy and creativity to everyday conversation. While it started as a way for local tradespeople to communicate, it has since spread beyond its origins and is sometimes used for humor or to create a sense of identity among speakers.
