Reverend William Archibald Spooner
Reverend William Archibald Spooner (1844-1930) was an Anglican clergyman and scholar known for his unique speech slips, now called "Spoonerisms." These humorous errors occur when the initial sounds of words are swapped, leading to amusing phrases. For example, he might say "tease my ears" instead of "ease my tears."
Spooner was educated at Oxford University and became the warden of New College, Oxford. His legacy lives on through the term "Spoonerism," which highlights the playful nature of language and has inspired many in literature and comedy.
