Rev. Wilbert Awdry
Rev. Wilbert Awdry was an English clergyman and author, best known for creating the beloved children's book series, Thomas the Tank Engine. Born on June 15, 1911, he initially wrote stories for his son, Christopher, to entertain him during illness.
Awdry's stories featured anthropomorphized trains and their adventures on the fictional Island of Sodor.
