Respiratory Viruses
Respiratory viruses are pathogens that primarily infect the respiratory system, leading to illnesses such as the common cold, influenza, and COVID-19. These viruses spread through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks. Common respiratory viruses include rhinovirus, influenza virus, and coronavirus.
Infections caused by respiratory viruses can result in symptoms like coughing, sneezing, sore throat, and fever. While many infections are mild and resolve on their own, some can lead to more severe complications, especially in vulnerable populations such as the elderly or those with underlying health conditions. Vaccines are available for certain respiratory viruses, like the influenza virus and coronavirus.
