Resolution Trust Corporation
The Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC) was a U.S. government agency established in 1989 to manage and resolve the savings and loan crisis. Its primary role was to oversee the liquidation of failed thrift institutions and to recover assets to protect depositors and taxpayers. The RTC aimed to stabilize the financial system during a period of significant economic turmoil.
The RTC was responsible for selling off the assets of these failed institutions, which included real estate and loans. By doing so, it helped restore public confidence in the banking system and facilitated the eventual recovery of the U.S. economy. The agency was dissolved in 1995 after successfully completing its mission.
