Renal Plexus
The Renal Plexus is a network of nerves located around the kidneys. It is part of the autonomic nervous system, which controls involuntary bodily functions. This plexus is responsible for regulating blood flow to the kidneys and influencing their function, including urine production and electrolyte balance.
The Renal Plexus receives input from both the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. The sympathetic fibers originate from the thoracic spinal cord, while the parasympathetic fibers come from the vagus nerve. This dual innervation helps maintain kidney health and respond to changes in the body's needs.
