Reliabilism
Reliabilism is a theory in epistemology that suggests a belief is justified if it is produced by a reliable cognitive process. This means that if a method consistently leads to true beliefs, then beliefs formed through that method can be considered justified. For example, if a person uses a reliable method, like scientific reasoning, to arrive at a conclusion, that conclusion is justified.
This approach contrasts with other theories that focus on the individual's mental states or the justification of beliefs. Reliabilism emphasizes the importance of the process over the subjective experience, making it a significant perspective in discussions about knowledge and belief, particularly in relation to Gettier problems.
