Red-Breasted Merganser
The Red-Breasted Merganser is a medium-sized diving duck known for its distinctive appearance. Males have a striking green head, a red breast, and a long, slender body, while females are mottled brown with a rusty orange breast. They are often found in coastal waters, lakes, and rivers, where they hunt for fish and other aquatic prey.
These ducks are excellent swimmers and divers, using their sharp bills to catch fish. During the breeding season, they typically nest near water in dense vegetation. The Red-Breasted Merganser migrates to warmer areas in winter, often joining large flocks for safety.
