Raymond Santana
Raymond Santana is an American civil rights advocate and one of the members of the Central Park Five, a group of five Black and Latino teenagers wrongfully convicted of a crime in 1989. The case gained national attention and highlighted issues of racial injustice and wrongful convictions in the United States. Santana was sentenced to prison but was exonerated in 2002 after DNA evidence and a confession from the actual perpetrator emerged.
After his exoneration, Santana became an outspoken advocate for criminal justice reform. He has worked to raise awareness about the flaws in the legal system and the impact of wrongful convictions on individuals and their families. His story has been featured in various media, including the Netflix miniseries When They See Us, which dramatizes the events surrounding the case.
