Rassemblement pour la République
Rassemblement pour la République (RPR) was a French political party founded in 1976 by Jacques Chirac. It aimed to unite various factions of the political right in France, promoting conservative values and policies. The party played a significant role in French politics during the 1980s and 1990s, particularly in supporting economic liberalization and a strong national identity.
In 2002, the RPR was transformed into Union for a Popular Movement (UMP), reflecting a broader coalition of center-right parties. The RPR's legacy continues to influence contemporary French politics, as many of its principles and members have shaped the direction of the UMP and its successors.
