Rance Tidal Power Station
The Rance Tidal Power Station is located in France, near the estuary of the Rance River. It was completed in 1966 and is one of the first large-scale tidal power plants in the world. The station harnesses the energy of tidal movements to generate electricity, using a dam that creates a difference in water levels.
The facility has a total installed capacity of 240 megawatts, producing enough energy to power around 400,000 homes. It operates by allowing water to flow through turbines during high and low tides, making it a significant example of renewable energy technology in the Brittany region.
