Ramsay Hunt syndrome
Ramsay Hunt syndrome is a neurological condition caused by the reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus, the same virus that causes chickenpox. This syndrome occurs when the virus affects the facial nerve near the ear, leading to facial paralysis and a painful rash in the ear or mouth area.
Symptoms may include sudden facial weakness, difficulty closing one eye, and hearing loss. In some cases, patients may also experience dizziness and tinnitus. Early diagnosis and treatment are important for improving recovery outcomes and reducing the risk of long-term complications.
