Queen Teresa of Leon
Queen Teresa of León was a prominent figure in the medieval history of the Iberian Peninsula. Born around 1151, she was the daughter of King Alfonso VII of León and Queen Berenguela of Barcelona. Teresa became the queen consort of King Henry I of Portugal through their marriage, which helped strengthen ties between León and Portugal.
After her husband's death in 1112, Teresa ruled as regent for their son, Afonso I of Portugal. Her reign was marked by political challenges and conflicts with her half-brother, King Afonso I of León. Teresa's legacy includes her role in the early formation of the Portuguese kingdom and her influence on its development.
