Pyrogen Testing
Pyrogen Testing is a method used to detect harmful substances called pyrogens in medical products, especially those that are injected into the body. Pyrogens can cause fever and other adverse reactions, so ensuring that products are free from these contaminants is crucial for patient safety.
The most common type of pyrogen testing is the Limulus Amebocyte Lysate (LAL) test, which uses a substance derived from the blood of the horseshoe crab. This test is sensitive and can identify even small amounts of pyrogens, helping manufacturers ensure their products meet safety standards before reaching patients.
