Pura Belpré
Pura Belpré was a Puerto Rican author, storyteller, and librarian born in 1899. She is best known for her contributions to children's literature, particularly for her efforts to promote Latino culture and stories. Belpré became the first Puerto Rican librarian in the New York Public Library system, where she worked to make library resources more accessible to Spanish-speaking communities.
In addition to her work as a librarian, Belpré wrote several beloved children's books, including "The Lion and the Mouse" and "The Three Magi." Her storytelling often incorporated folklore and traditions from Puerto Rico, helping to preserve and share her cultural heritage. Belpré's legacy continues to inspire writers and librarians today.
