Pummerin
The Pummerin is a large bell located in the St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna, Austria. It is one of the largest church bells in Europe, weighing approximately 20 tons. The bell was cast in 1711 and is known for its distinctive sound, which can be heard throughout the city during special occasions.
The Pummerin is made from the melted metal of cannons captured during the Austrian Empire's conflicts. It is traditionally rung to mark significant events, such as New Year's Eve and the beginning of religious services. The bell is an important symbol of Vienna's cultural heritage and history.
