Pulmonary Macrophages
Pulmonary macrophages are specialized immune cells located in the lungs. They play a crucial role in defending the respiratory system against pathogens, such as bacteria and viruses, as well as clearing out debris and dead cells. These cells are part of the body's first line of defense and help maintain lung health.
In addition to their protective functions, pulmonary macrophages also participate in the inflammatory response. They can release signaling molecules called cytokines, which help coordinate the immune response. By doing so, they contribute to the overall maintenance of lung tissue and the regulation of immune reactions in the respiratory tract.
