Public Subnets
A public subnet is a segment of a network that is accessible from the internet. It allows resources, such as virtual machines or web servers, to communicate directly with external users. This is typically achieved by assigning a public IP address to the resources within the subnet, enabling them to send and receive traffic from the internet.
In cloud computing environments, like those provided by Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure, public subnets are often used to host applications that need to be reachable by users outside the cloud infrastructure. Proper configuration of security groups and network access control lists is essential to protect these resources while allowing necessary access.
