Pterophyllum scalare
Pterophyllum scalare, commonly known as the angelfish, is a freshwater fish native to the Amazon River basin in South America. It is characterized by its triangular shape, long fins, and vibrant colors, which can include shades of silver, black, and orange. Angelfish typically grow to about 6 inches in length and can live for up to 10 years in captivity.
These fish are popular in the aquarium trade due to their striking appearance and relatively peaceful nature. Pterophyllum scalare prefers to inhabit densely planted areas in the wild, where they can find shelter and breeding sites. They are omnivorous, feeding on a diet of small invertebrates, plant matter, and commercial fish food.
