Proposition 64
Proposition 64, passed in November 2016, legalized the recreational use of cannabis for adults aged 21 and older in California. It allows individuals to possess up to one ounce of marijuana and cultivate up to six plants for personal use. The measure also established a regulatory framework for the commercial sale of cannabis, including licensing and taxation.
Additionally, Proposition 64 aimed to address social justice issues by allowing individuals with prior marijuana convictions to apply for reduced sentences or expungement. The law also allocated a portion of tax revenue to fund programs for youth, public health, and environmental restoration related to cannabis cultivation.
