Progressive Muscular Dystrophy
Progressive Muscular Dystrophy (PMD) is a group of genetic disorders characterized by the gradual weakening and degeneration of muscles. This condition affects the ability to move and perform daily activities, as muscle fibers become damaged over time. PMD can vary in severity and age of onset, with some forms appearing in childhood and others in adulthood.
The most common type of PMD is Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, which primarily affects boys. Other types include Becker Muscular Dystrophy and Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy. While there is currently no cure, treatments focus on managing symptoms and improving quality of life through physical therapy and medications.
