Proboscis monkey
The Proboscis monkey is a unique primate native to the rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra. Known for its distinctive large nose, which can grow up to 7 inches long in males, this monkey has a reddish-brown coat and a pot-bellied appearance. They primarily live in groups and are excellent swimmers, often found near rivers and mangroves.
These monkeys are herbivorous, mainly feeding on leaves, fruits, and seeds. Their social structure is matriarchal, with females typically leading the group. The Proboscis monkey is classified as endangered due to habitat loss and hunting, making conservation efforts crucial for its survival.
