Primary immune deficiencies
Primary immune deficiencies are a group of disorders caused by genetic defects that affect the immune system's ability to function properly. These conditions can lead to increased susceptibility to infections, autoimmune diseases, and certain cancers. Individuals with primary immune deficiencies may experience frequent or severe infections that are difficult to treat.
There are many types of primary immune deficiencies, including X-linked agammaglobulinemia and Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID). Diagnosis often involves blood tests to assess immune function, and treatment may include immunoglobulin therapy, antibiotics, or bone marrow transplants, depending on the specific condition and its severity.
