President of Mauritius
The President of Mauritius is the head of state and serves primarily a ceremonial role. The position was established in 1992 when Mauritius became a republic. The President is elected by the National Assembly for a term of five years and represents the unity of the nation.
The President's duties include appointing the Prime Minister, who is the head of government, and other key officials. While the President has some constitutional powers, the role is largely symbolic, with real political power resting with the Prime Minister and the Cabinet.
