President of Lithuania
The President of Lithuania is the head of state and serves as the highest-ranking official in the country. This position is responsible for representing Lithuania internationally, ensuring the constitution is upheld, and overseeing the functioning of the government. The president is elected for a five-year term and can serve a maximum of two consecutive terms.
The president also plays a crucial role in foreign policy and national defense, working closely with the Prime Minister and the Parliament. The current president, as of October 2023, is Gitanas Nausėda, who took office in July 2019.
