Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs)
A Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) is a type of health insurance plan that offers a network of healthcare providers. Members can choose to see any doctor or specialist, but they save more money by using providers within the network. PPOs typically have higher premiums than other plans, but they provide greater flexibility in choosing healthcare services.
PPOs do not require referrals to see specialists, making it easier for members to access specialized care. While members can visit out-of-network providers, doing so usually results in higher out-of-pocket costs. This structure allows for a balance between choice and cost management.
