Portageville Bridge
The Portageville Bridge is a historic railroad bridge located in Portageville, New York. It spans the Genesee River and is part of the Genesee Valley Greenway State Park. Built in 1875, the bridge is a significant example of a wrought iron structure and was designed to facilitate the transportation of goods and passengers across the river.
The bridge is approximately 800 feet long and stands 234 feet above the river, making it one of the tallest railroad bridges in the United States. It was used by the Erie Railroad and later by the Norfolk Southern Railway until its closure in 2003. The bridge is now a popular site for photography and sightseeing.
