Porcine Multisystemic Wasting Syndrome
Porcine Multisystemic Wasting Syndrome (PMWS) is a disease affecting pigs, primarily caused by the porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2). It leads to severe weight loss, poor growth, and a weakened immune system in affected animals. PMWS is most commonly seen in young pigs, particularly those between 6 weeks and 6 months of age.
The disease can result in significant economic losses for pig farmers due to increased mortality rates and reduced productivity. Management practices, including vaccination against PCV2, are essential for controlling the spread of PMWS and improving the health of affected herds.
