Porcine Dermatitis and Nephropathy Syndrome
Porcine Dermatitis and Nephropathy Syndrome (PDNS) is a disease affecting pigs, characterized by skin lesions and kidney damage. It primarily occurs in growing pigs and is associated with the porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2). The condition can lead to significant economic losses in the swine industry due to decreased growth rates and increased mortality.
Symptoms of PDNS include reddening of the skin, especially on the hindquarters, and swelling of the kidneys. Affected pigs may also show signs of lethargy and reduced appetite. Early detection and management are crucial to minimize the impact of this syndrome on pig health and farm productivity.
