Pope Pius IV
Pope Pius IV, born Giovanni Angelo Medici in 1499, served as the 225th pope from 1559 until his death in 1565. He was a member of the Medici family and was known for his efforts to continue the reforms initiated by the previous pope, Pope Paul III. Pius IV is best remembered for reconvening the Council of Trent, which aimed to address issues within the Catholic Church and counter the Protestant Reformation.
During his papacy, Pius IV focused on strengthening the Catholic Church's doctrines and practices. He also worked to improve relations with various European states and promoted education and the arts. His reign contributed to the consolidation of the Catholic Church's authority during a time of significant religious upheaval.
