Pompeu Fabra
Pompeu Fabra was a prominent Catalan linguist, grammarian, and lexicographer born in 1868 in Gràcia, a district of Barcelona. He is best known for his work in standardizing the Catalan language, making it more accessible and consistent for speakers and writers. His efforts laid the foundation for modern Catalan grammar and vocabulary.
Fabra's most significant contribution is the Diccionari General de la Llengua Catalana, published in 1932, which remains a key reference for the language. He also played a vital role in the establishment of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans, promoting the study and preservation of Catalan culture and language.
