Polycystic Liver Disease
Polycystic Liver Disease (PLD) is a genetic condition characterized by the growth of multiple fluid-filled cysts in the liver. These cysts can vary in size and may lead to an enlarged liver, causing discomfort or pain. PLD is often associated with other conditions, such as Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD), which affects the kidneys.
The exact cause of PLD is linked to mutations in specific genes, and it can be inherited in an autosomal dominant pattern. While many individuals with PLD may not experience significant symptoms, some may require medical intervention if the cysts cause complications or affect liver function.
