Podargidae
Podargidae, commonly known as frogmouths, are a family of nocturnal birds found primarily in Australia and New Guinea. They are characterized by their wide, flattened bills and large, expressive eyes, which help them hunt insects and small vertebrates at night. Their plumage is often mottled and camouflaged, allowing them to blend seamlessly into their surroundings.
These birds are known for their unique resting posture, where they sit motionless on tree branches, resembling tree stumps or logs. Frogmouths are also notable for their distinctive calls, which can be heard during the night. They play an important role in their ecosystems as both predators and prey.
