Pluripotent Stem Cells
Pluripotent stem cells are a type of stem cell that can develop into almost any cell type in the body. They have the unique ability to differentiate into cells of the three primary germ layers: ectoderm, mesoderm, and endoderm. This makes them valuable for research and potential therapies, as they can generate various specialized cells needed for medical treatments.
These cells can be derived from several sources, including embryonic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). Embryonic stem cells are obtained from early-stage embryos, while iPSCs are created by reprogramming adult cells. Both types hold promise for regenerative medicine and understanding developmental processes.
