Platysma
The platysma is a thin, broad muscle located in the neck and lower face. It originates from the upper chest and shoulder area, extending upward to the jawline. This muscle plays a role in facial expressions, particularly in movements that lower the jaw and pull down the corners of the mouth.
In addition to its function in facial expressions, the platysma helps with neck movement and stability. It is often associated with the appearance of the neck, as it can contribute to the formation of wrinkles and sagging skin as a person ages. Maintaining the strength and tone of the platysma can enhance the overall appearance of the neck area.
