Plastiras Dam
Plastiras Dam is a large earth-fill dam located in central Greece, specifically in the region of Thessaly. Completed in 1965, it was built on the Tavropos River to create a reservoir for irrigation, hydroelectric power generation, and flood control. The dam is named after the Greek politician Nikolaos Plastiras, who played a significant role in its construction.
The reservoir formed by the dam, known as Lake Plastiras, covers an area of approximately 25 square kilometers. It is a popular destination for outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, and water sports, attracting both locals and tourists. The scenic beauty of the surrounding landscape enhances its appeal as a recreational area.
