Plague Pit
A "Plague Pit" refers to a mass grave used during outbreaks of infectious diseases, particularly the Black Death in the 14th century. These pits were created to quickly bury large numbers of deceased individuals to prevent the spread of disease and manage the overwhelming death toll.
Typically located outside of towns and cities, plague pits were often unmarked and filled with bodies without individual graves. Archaeological discoveries of these sites provide valuable insights into the impact of the bubonic plague and the social responses to epidemics in history.
