Phoenicopterus roseus
Phoenicopterus roseus, commonly known as the greater flamingo, is a large wading bird found in shallow coastal and inland waters. It is recognized for its long legs, neck, and distinctive pink plumage, which is derived from the carotenoid pigments in its diet of algae and crustaceans. These birds can reach a height of up to 1.5 meters and have a wingspan of about 1.8 meters.
Greater flamingos are social creatures, often seen in large flocks. They are known for their unique feeding behavior, which involves filtering food from the water using their specialized beaks. These birds are primarily found in regions of Africa, Asia, and Europe, where they inhabit wetlands, lagoons, and estuaries.
