Phoenician City-States
The Phoenician City-States were a collection of independent cities located along the eastern Mediterranean coast, primarily in present-day Lebanon. Major city-states included Tyre, Sidon, and Byblos. These cities were known for their maritime trade, skilled shipbuilding, and the production of purple dye, which was highly valued in the ancient world.
The Phoenicians were also known for their alphabet, which greatly influenced later writing systems, including the Greek and Latin alphabets. Their extensive trade networks connected them with various cultures, allowing for the exchange of goods, ideas, and innovations across the Mediterranean region.
