Philippine Scripts
Philippine scripts refer to the various writing systems used in the Philippines before and during the Spanish colonial period. The most notable among these is the Baybayin, an ancient script used primarily by the Tagalog people. Other scripts include Buhid, Hanunuo, and Tagbanwa, which are still used by some indigenous groups today.
These scripts are syllabic, meaning each character represents a syllable rather than a single letter. They were used for various purposes, including poetry, trade, and communication. The revival of interest in these scripts is part of a broader movement to preserve Filipino culture and heritage.
