Phare des Baleines
The Phare des Baleines is a historic lighthouse located on the Île de Ré, off the western coast of France. Built in 1854, it stands at 57 meters tall, making it one of the tallest lighthouses in France. The lighthouse was designed to guide ships safely through the treacherous waters of the Atlantic Ocean, particularly around the Pertuis d'Antioche strait.
Visitors can climb the 257 steps to the top for panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and coastline. The lighthouse is also part of a larger maritime heritage site that includes a museum, showcasing the history of lighthouses and navigation in the region.
