Permanganates
Permanganates are chemical compounds that contain the permanganate ion, MnO4^-, where manganese is in a +7 oxidation state. They are typically deep purple in color and are known for their strong oxidizing properties. Common examples include potassium permanganate and sodium permanganate, which are used in various applications, including water treatment and as disinfectants.
These compounds can react with a variety of substances, often resulting in the release of oxygen. Due to their reactivity, permanganates are utilized in organic chemistry for oxidation reactions. They are also employed in medicine for treating certain skin conditions and in laboratories for analytical purposes.
