Peracids
Peracids are a class of organic compounds that contain a peroxy group (-O-O-) attached to a carboxylic acid. They are known for their strong oxidizing properties, making them useful in various chemical reactions, including the oxidation of alkenes and the cleavage of ethers. Common examples of peracids include peracetic acid and perbenzoic acid.
These compounds are often used in industrial applications, such as in the production of pharmaceuticals and bleaching agents. Due to their reactivity, peracids must be handled with care, as they can be hazardous and may cause burns or other injuries upon contact.
