Penny-farthing
The penny-farthing is a type of early bicycle that became popular in the late 19th century. It features a large front wheel and a much smaller rear wheel, which gives it a distinctive appearance. The large wheel allows for greater speed, while the smaller wheel makes it easier to maneuver. Riders sit high above the ground, which can make mounting and dismounting challenging.
Invented in the 1870s, the penny-farthing was a significant advancement in personal transportation. It is often associated with the Victorian era and is sometimes referred to as an ordinary bicycle. Although it has largely been replaced by modern bicycles, the penny-farthing remains a symbol of cycling history.
